You might, say something like: “I understand why you think we need to put topic A ahead of topic B. I appreciate your concern. I’ve thought about just that thing. You and I are on the same page and share the big picture. We have the same cause and purpose. My approach and priorities are a little different from yours right now, but in the end we’ll finish together. This is my agenda for this meeting. If you want to talk about something else, let’s talk offline when this is over, and the issue is resolved. But for now, I need your thoughts and insight on topic B. Can I count on you?”

When facing a Leader who is so politely adamant about not allowing the obvious hijacking to proceed, there is little the perpetrator can do. The final question, “Can I count on you”, forces the perp to climb on board.
